Our History

In 2000, Gregory VandenBosch founded MedDirect with his lifelong friend and business partner, Scott Addison, MD.  Initially established as a patient finance company, the mission of MedDirect was to serve health providers by providing tools needed to build  ‘elective’ components to medical practices so physicians weren’t overly dependant on third-party payers.

While the company was started in Grand Rapids, MI, it soon expanded throughout the upper Midwest and eventually served over 600 offices.  Patient finance companies for elective health procedures have since became commonplace; however, at the time, MedDirect was a true innovator.   This spirit of innovation lives on.  In fact, it’s what drives the company and it’s the reason MedDirect is defining the ‘retail revenue cycle’ space today.

In 2000, patients were responsible for only a tiny amount of a healthcare provider’s total revenue (less than 5%).  However, this is rapidly changing.  McKinsey & Company projects that that percentage will reach nearly 40% by 2012.  When combined with major advances in technology, the social networking phenomenon and the fact that the web has blown apart information limitations and given us more knowledge than we could use in ten lifetimes, there’s no wonder the rise of the healthcare consumer is taking place and the retail revolution is on.

MedDirect is leading the charge helping physician groups and hospitals make the transition to a new world where it is individuals, not groups, governments or businesses, that will define and shape the future of healthcare.  Read on to learn more or call us anytime.
